If you have not guest by the lack of posts this month, I have been going through a bit of writer’s block. It is not so much that I cannot write- it is more that everything I have been writing seems fluffy. I want each and every one of my posts to contain a message that will positively impact the lives of those who read it. It sounds like my mission to include beneficial substance into each post should be pretty easy, right? Not exactly. Well actually, I take that back. If I was not such a perfectionist, I would probably be able to knock out a few dozen posts in a day or two. But I have chosen quality over quantity. And sometimes this choice leaves me feeling a bit uninspired. Here are my top five tips for finding inspiration!
1. Add some pizzazz into your day!
I am a pretty scheduled person and I rarely leave room for spontaneity. Is scheduled time for spontaneous adventures even considered real spontaneity? Whenever I am feeling uninspired, I try to change up my daily routine. Something as simple as trying a new drink at Starbucks, adding hot sauce to your sandwich, painting your nails a bold color, or trying a new hair-do could be all you need to get out of your rut.
2. Call an old friend!
If there is one thing that always makes my day brighter and leaves me more inspired, its random phone calls from my blogger bestie, Hannah! Hearing about all her fun adventures at UCLA and picturing what life would be like on the West Coast gets my imagination running. Also, her fresh perspective on whats going on in my life are always helpful when trying to find inspiration.
3. Get crafty!
There is something about wondering through a craft store that has my imagination racing. When I am deep in my writers block, I like to pick up a craft to make- specifically something that requires directions. If I just want to allow my imagination to run free, I will grab a canvas and a paint brush and go crazy.
4. Absorb your surroundings!
When was the last time you allowed yourself to just be? Or sat in silence? Or just stared at the wall? Whether you are inside or outside, pay attention to your atmosphere. Take some time to experience the room you are in without any distractions. Yes, put away your cell phone! There is inspiration to be found in everything.
5. Go through your closet!
Put on your absolute favorite outfit! Then, try to image what was going through the designer’s mind when they created your favorite shirt, sweater, pants, or shoes. Think about where they found their inspiration and what attracted you to the specific piece. Maybe you are basing your favorite outfit off of someone you admire. Try to envision what a day in their life would be like. This should help you to escape whatever stress is causing you to feel uninspired.
For whatever reason you are feeling a bit uninspired, remember that there are brighter days ahead. Keep your head up, a smile on your face, and remember to stay quirky!
