Life is fast-paced, busy and full of twists and turns. What stresses you one day will be different the next, meaning that you will often put yourself on the back burner. It’s not the thing you should be doing, but when life gets hectic, we all do it naturally. Self-care should be something that’s on the top of your priority list, not the bottom, because if you don’t prioritize your health and happiness, you’re not going to function as well as you could.

So, with all that in mind, it’s time to put the stress, the bills and the responsibilities to one side and treat yourself. You don’t have to crack open a bottle of wine and start pouring glasses; wine is nice but it’s a crutch. You’re embracing yourself, not escaping from yourself, right? Coping with life isn’t always the easiest thing to do, but if you reward yourself regularly you can start to feel a little more zen and a lot happier. It’s time to indulge, and here are some of the best ways that you can do that.

  1. A Skin Thing. Everyone loves going to a spa and not just for the ability to sit in a jacuzzi and feel the bubbles on your skin. A rejuvenating advanced skin care facial can make you feel renewed, as if you’re sloughing off the old you and embracing the new. A spa facial and massage are treats for your skin, but they can really make you feel good and confident.
  2. Dine In. Making yourself breakfast in bed is just as fun as someone making it for you. Buy yourself a good breakfast tray and bring your favourite breakfast combinations back to bed with the newspaper. It’s an indulgence you don’t get to do very often, so enjoy every bite.
  3. Podcasts. Going for a long power walk while listening to influential podcasts is a treat for the soul. You can feel energised and centred by letting the words of someone else flow through you. You will feel the energy flowing through your body right to your toes, and you’ll learn that sometimes, hearing someone tell you a story is better than trying to be the storyteller.
  4. Buy Flowers. Get out every vase you have in the home, give them a clean and then fill them with as many flowers as you can afford. The sight and smell of flowers in the home are enough to lift you and treat your senses.
  5. Redecorate. Going shopping for new accessories for the home is therapeutic as much as it is fun. Taking some time to decorate your house is a good way to ensure that you feel happy in the space you’re in. It’s a great way to feel satisfied in your own bubble – make your bubble pretty!

Self-care is so important to your continued health. It’s not all physical, you know, sometimes you have to just take care of you. There’s no wrong answer here – whatever self-care you choose is right for you will be right.
