It is not about the gifts you receive, rather the gifts you give.
Often said, and often forgotten about. A gift does not have to be something expensive, or big, or even tangible. The best gifts are those that come from the heart. At least I would like to think so! My favorite part of the holiday season is watching those closest to me light up when opening my gift to them! Like with my blog posts, I strive to give a gift that is not just fluff. Perhaps the most difficult part of gift giving is creating a thoughtful gift. Here are my ideas for inexpensive gifts that your friends – and family – are sure to never forget!
For the friend you rarely get to see, give the gift of time!
By far my favorite gift to get is time spent with my friends and family! For my birthday this year, my best friends surprised me with a party. Having all of my best friends under one roof for a few hours brought me more joy than any tangible object. If your friend loves coffee, give her a gift card to her favorite café with a card that says its only valid when you are present. Plan a road trip and circle the date on a planner or calendar. Include a map with your road trip drawn out, pictures of your destination, and snacks for your road trip. Its an inexpensive, thoughtful gift that any friend is sure to love!
For the friend that is going through a hard time, create an emotional emergency kit!
I find writing therapeutic and encourage everyone going through a stressful time to write out their feelings. Swing by your local Target or T.J. Max and pick up an adorable notebook, a pen and a cute box. Fill the box with a Starbucks gift card, a package of tissues, a chocolate bar, a stress ball, and anything else your friend loves! On every 10th page, write out a reason why you love her or a funny or inspirational saying. You can even tape in pictures of you and your friend! On the first page of the notebook, write a letter to your friend explain the gift.
For the friend that lives far a way, make a donation in their name!
Shipping prices are at an all time high- especially when it comes to mailing a package across the country. If your bestie lives far, take the money you would have spent on a gift and shipping and donate to your friend’s favorite charity! Has your friend have a family member thats been effected by cancer? Donate to the American Cancer Society. Was her grandfather in the army? Donate to the Wounded Warrior Project. Does she love animals? Best Friends Animal Society has the option of giving an e-card so your friend can decide what cause they would like to back. Making a donation in her name is truly the gift that keeps on giving.
For the friend that loves to write, give the gift of a letter writing kit!
Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, Target, Home Goods and T.J. Maxx are all notorious for having adorable- and inexpensive!- stationary and pens. Pick up an accordion file folder and label each section with a different occasions and stuff the section accordingly! Birthday, holidays, congratulations, thank you’s and blank cards are just a few suggestions as to different categories you can create. The possibilities are endless! Throw in a few Forever stamps and a roll or two of washi tape to top the gift off. Not only will this gift come in handy, but it is sure to be a present your friend will never forget.
Happy holidays, y’all!
Stay merry & stay quirky!
