There are many reasons why I feel in love with High Point University
. Looks like I am not the only one who believes HPU is #1…

If you asked any student why they love HPU, they would probably say something along the lines of, “Oh the pools are really awesome,” or “Prime! I love Prime.” While both of those are valid excuses to fall in love with the school, I have a different take. Here are my top reasons for loving High Point:
Though I never seem to be able to correctly spell the name of this building, Cottrell, also referred to as The Center for Student Success, has become my favorite place to emerge myself in my work. The immaculate, brand new, $16 million, 40,000-square-foot building not only has a two-story Starbucks, but the coolest hidden room with dry-erase walls and tables. For the most part, I balance my time after class between the Starbucks and the Center for Entrepreneurship. Since my good friend DJ from The College Style Guy and I are literally always in Cottrell, it is pretty common for us to be given our own office space when the building gets busy.
Tucked away on the third floor of the Nido S. Qubein School of Communication lies my second favorite hiding spot. The Editing Suites are home to private, sound proof rooms equipped with 27 inch Macs (that have all the Adobe editing software) and state of the art recording equipment.
Campus Concierge. From umbrellas and rain ponchos, to the number for the best pizza in the area- literally anything you need, Campus Concierge has it. When the fan and my closet door broke and I was not sure who to call, Concierge connected me to maintenance and had door back on the track within the hour! I also continuously break my favorite HPU water bottle (let’s be real, I am pretty clumsy) and Concierge is more than willing to replace it for me! Every. Single. Time.
It is the best feeling in the world to walk around campus at night knowing you are safe. Literally. Though we still do, and will continue to, complain about security being everywhere- we are all grateful to have our cops driving around our campus at all hours of the day.
The Promenade. Nothing, and I mean nothing, is more peaceful than the Promenade at night. With the classical music blaring and the fountains roaring, the Promenade at night is my favorite place to go when I just need to wind down and clear my head.
Free Tutoring. I have recently learned that I am not that good at speaking French. Okay, well… I kinda sorta have no clue what is going on in class half of the time since the French like to drop parts of words. And also French is a whole different language. Thankfully, I have the option of meeting with a tutor as many times a week as necessary. And tutoring is completely free! All tutors are students who have previously taken, and received a high grad in, the class that you are seeking help in- making it the perfect on campus job for next year!
Okay, my list would be incomplete without adding Prime! I would be lying if I said I do not love having a free $50, four course weekly dinner as part of my meal plan. However, my favorite part of Prime is their willingness to work with me to develop an allergy friendly meal. They added my baked-potato and sautéed veggies meal that I talked about in this post
to the menu!
Being more than just another student. The biggest reason why I wanted to attend a small university is so I could receive the one-on-one attention I need in order to succeed. At HPU, even the dining staff knows you by name. If I am having an off day, chances are my favorite barista at Starbucks notices my frown and tries her best to cheer me up! As Freshmen, we are all assigned a Success Coach to ensure that we are on the right track throughout our college career. The faculty and staff are more than willing to help you in whatever way they possibly can. Everyone at HPU has the students’ best interest in mind and it is oh so nice to be studying at a university that wants to see me succeed.
When asked why I love HPU, I often give my summarized version of “High Point University is home.” Because it really is my home. And what is not to love about your home?
