Aspire for the Unattainable

Attending New York Fashion Week always seemed like an unattainable goal. I’ve grown up dreaming big and falling short of my aspirations. However, when you dream as big as I do, where you fall short is still pretty cool. Thats the thing about dreams, they are attainable. Your goals can be achieved if you put your mind to it.
Me infront of NYFW
The majority of the time, I feel like I have been handed the opportunities in my life, even though I am well aware I haven’t. I don’t want to say things come easy to me, but in a way they kinda do. I was blessed with the ability to think outside the box, I have an outgoing personality and the type A way of getting things done. Yeah those are great and all, but sometimes I think it would be cool to run a marathon or not have to worry about failing the math test. I have also inherited my mother’s ambition, which is what I owe the majority of my success too.  I am lucky enough to have figured out what my strengths and weaknesses are and what I want to do with my life at such a young age. It has allowed me the freedom to really fight for what I want and knowing by doing so, the outcome won’t be wasted.
Lately I have been thinking about how I have gotten to the point where I currently am in my life. I am so used to putting in hours and hours of work that what I do doesn’t seem too challenging. Or maybe its because I absolutely love what I do. Or maybe it’s both. More than anything, I think I owe my small amount of success to everyone who has ever told me I couldn’t, because every negative comment made me that much more driven to prove I can. Though I sound like I am exuding ambition, my friend recently pointed out to me that I am not. Her observation didn’t settle well, only because I agree with
The Smart Girls Group at rewardStyle’s NYFW Rooftop Party

Way back in my freshman year of high school, I was selected to be a member of the Seventeen Social Club. Being a social media representative for a Seventeen is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I quickly forget about that. Advertising the specific products Seventeen sent me became easy, apart of my routine. I guarantee that being a member of this group is the reason I have been selected for other positions. Not only have I learned valuable lessons in social media marketing, but I discovered my passion for marketing. It is through Seventeen Magazine that I have found the motivation to go out and search for other similar opportunities.
This motivation led me to endless hours of research on my computer which eventually lead me to discover The Smart Girls Group, a multi platform network aiming ambitious young women with the tools necessary to succeed. What is so great about The Smart Girls Group isn’t just the opportunities it offers me (although it is the reason I was able to attend New York Fashion Week). The best part about The Smart Girls Group is the sisterhood it has created. I am surrounded by a group of girls who are constantly building me up, giving me the confidence boost I need to continue to go out and search for new opportunities. Through SGG, I have met the best friends I could ever ask for. These girls see more potential in me than I see in myself. They are constantly encouraging me to believe I have greater things in my future than marrying rich and becoming a housewife (although my life goal has always, and will always be to become a mother). I am truly thankful for all the doors SGG has and will continue to open.
The Smart Girls and I at MTV
The Smart Girls Group lead me to New York Fashion Week! While in New York City over the weekend, I was able to stop by MTV for the second time. Thankfully, I have the most amazing boss ever and she allowed me to bring my fellow Smart Sisters along to participate in a focus group. Having the most inspiring people in life by my side at a MTV corporate head quarters was one of the coolest things I have ever done. Yet another once in a life time opportunity that I was able to experience, for the second time.
And thats just it. All these amazing opportunities could easily be a once in a life time experience. I often slip into the mentality that “Oh, I’ve already experienced this once, thats good enough” but its really not. Lately I’ve been thinking that because I’ve done something once that I’ve fulfilled my life-long goals and I can just stop. Life right now seems easy because I am forgetting about all the hard work that has lead me to this point in my life. These crazy once in a life time opportunities can remain once in a life time opportunities, or could become part of my normal, everyday lifestyle. I have to convince myself that I have not reached my full potential. Though I am out experiencing all of the crazy things life has to offer, opening every door put in my path, and accepting almost every opportunity that comes my way, there is still more out there.

The Quirky Conservative taking over NYFW

Often times I overlook the fine details of my life. Reminiscing over my past week in New York City, I have come to realize that by achieving my wildest dreams while in high school only means I haven’t dreamt quite big enough. There is still more opportunities out there in the world, more doors waiting for me to open them. I need to rekindle the fire inside of me.
Here’s too dreaming big, falling short, and learning from every experience you go through in life.
Keep it covered up.
